Who is this elusive Mr. Ferro?
The 2014-2015 school year will be my fifth year at Lewis, my eighth overall. I came to Lewis after teaching seventh and eighth grade English and two years of elementary school. It has been wonderful to serve the students and parents of such an amazing school. This year I will teach both eighth grade English and theater.
I grew up in southern California and moved away after high school to attend college at the University of San Diego where I majored in English and Spanish and minored in Theology. I geared up for law school, only to change my mind when I considered the lifestyle I wanted to live and my own personal love for education. I spent two years working for the school district as an intern with the Elementary Bilingual Teaching Fellowship program. I very quickly decided to obtain another credential in English with the hopes of teaching either middle or high school. After completing my credentials, I went back to USD to obtain a master's degree in education. Never have I been more prepared or energized to be a teacher. So, here I am for another great year! I am focusing my own professional development and teaching this year on the use of technology and twenty-first century learning skills for students. Much of what I will do as a teacher will go digital. I will do the best I can to simultaneously give students the skills to both be better English students and prepared for the digital world in which we live. I do not shy away from technological advancements as the world changes everyday. I am very excited to do some new things and adapt with the ever-changing digital world.
